Harry is the senior advisor to Senior Concierge Service.  He is an active, retired gentleman who shares the perspective of a "seasoned citizen".  He keeps us on track with a senior’s perspective in what we do and how we do it.

Here are some questions and answers from Harry.

Q: My daughter is driving me nuts.  She nags me about what I eat.  She doesn’t approve of my desserts or not eating breakfast.  I have never eaten breakfast and don’t plan to start now. I think that it is not necessary to answer to her for what I eat. I understand that she cares about my health but how can I get her to leave me alone about my meals?

A: Sounds like your daughter may be confused about who is the parent.  Have you spoken to your doctor about skipping breakfast and your sweet tooth?  If the doctor is not concerned, let your daughter know you took her concern seriously and tell her what the doctor said.  Then, eat when and what you want.  Enjoy your longevity. Your daughter can not hold on to you forever but it is sweet that she wants to.

Q: Dad lives in Castle Pines and me in Boston. He lives independently and still drives during the day.  His memory is slipping but overall, he is in great shape for a man of 82.  About a year ago we agreed to have a quick telephone call each day but now he wants me to call two times a day!  How can I be attentive to him and check on his safety and comfort and still have a life?
A: Tell dad to get a life.  That is what the kids say isn’t it?  Arrange for someone else to call him daily. This is an easy service to arrange. Tell the caller to notify you if there is any indication of a problem.  If you need help finding such a service, let me know and we will help find the right person for you. If senior Concierge Services is the organization you choose, either Ann or your dad’s caller will meet him in person before they begin calling.  Continue your daily calls and be sure to tell your dad about the new arrangement.
